On Their Way to Sedona

Three new paintings are on their way to Gallery of Modern Masters in Sedona. Located in the Hillside Center, front and center on Hwy 179, the gallery features paintings, sculpture, glass and wind sculptures. You can easily spot it from the highway just south of the bridge and turnaround into town.

River Runs Through

River Runs Through 36x24, is an acrylic painting on canvas. I am often inspired to use the red rocks of the Sedona area in my imagined narrative landscapes. If you look closely, you can see horse shapes to the right of the steps and, below the cliffs, ancient structures of people who have come before.

Ribbons of Reflection and Canyon Symphony

Ribbons of Reflection and Canyon Symphony 30x24, are also acrylic on canvas. Although these works are more abstracted, they still reflect the red rock landscape of Arizona. Using only a flat 1" brush and mostly primary acrylic colors, I was satisfied with the result of this lively pair of bright, angular, geometric paintings.

Opening Reception

There are two happy winners today from a complimentary drawing for Anne's monotype and my painting. Teri H is the lucky new owner of the lovely original print you see on the refreshment table. Lionel A's name was drawn to take home Autumn Reflection, a 16x20 mixed media acrylic painting. Anne and I are both thrilled to contribute to their collections and hope they enjoy their new art for many years.
Here are a few photos from the afternoon reception.

The exhibition is on through July 29.
Come on by or check out LynnWelker.com for more.

Studio Photo on Artsy Shark

Click on the Artsy Shark Newsletter to see a variety of artists in their studios.
I am pleased to see my photo included with this creative group.

I prefer painting indoors at the easel or propping up a board on my large drafting table. With a wide bank of windows and bright skylights overhead, I always feel close to nature and the outdoors. Overture to the Land is almost ready for framing.

Here's the other side of the studio. Often, I relax in this special chair and do research for new work. My sister retrieved our Dad's antique oak courthouse jury chairs from the basement of his Cincinnati, OH pharmacy. I find comfort in having family objects around me when I work. Reflected in the mirror is a painting I am finalizing. It has been a challenge to use only jewel tones for the color palette.

This is where the business happens. Time is spent almost every day keeping up with galleries, photos, correspondence, social media, websites and research. My 27" iMac was the best investment I could have made to enhance the efficiency of promoting my art career. Several images can be open at the same time to view and alter as needed. Hanging over the desk is Shattered, a painting of Native American symbolism, created during the destruction of local burial grounds for the excavation and building of the Fletcher Jones Mercedes dealership.

Figurative Narratives

In recent years, the focus of my work has been on abstracted landscapes. However, because human figure drawing and painting were a major part of my art training, I sometimes return to creating figurative art. Below is a group of  acrylic paintings hanging at Sandstone Gallery in Laguna Beach.

Spinning Into Control 30x30                Edge of a Dream 30x40                       Catching Up 30x30

I cherish my musty portfolio stored in the back of my studio closet.
Included in this blog are sketches from my days at the
University of Cincinnati in the 1960's.

Phil Foster was my painting professor at the College of Design, Architecture and Art.
He was a tremendous influence on thousands of students.

Pat, my college roommate at the Alpha Chi Omega sorority house.

Painting Installed

The painting, Women of the Mesa, has been en route to a client's home in Northern California. Yesterday, she and some friends installed the piece in her dining room. Here it is today!

I hope Margaret has many joyous meals under
the watchful eyes of the multiple women in this painting.
Look closely and discover the abstracted figures...

From Palm Desert to Nebraska!

A client who lives in Nebraska purchased Desert Mirage, a mixed media collage painting from A Gallery Fine Art in Palm Desert. It has safely arrived at her home and she loves it! She says it is more beautiful than she imagined!

Thank you, Jenny, for your continuing support of my work!

Here are additional collage paintings from the Mirage Series.
All are available except Mirage 4. It has been sold.

Free Roaming Opens in Laguna

Exhibition, FREE ROAMING, a group of imagined abstracted landscapes, attracted many Art Walk patrons last Thursday evening at Sandstone Gallery. The forecasted rain waited until early Friday morning to arrive so visitors remained dry and happy.

The paintings Blue Fences and Where the Sky Began seemed
to draw the most attention. They are two of my favorites as well.

Here's the other side of the room highlighting three 26x26 square paintings and four 14x14 small works. All of these landforms are inspired by a variety of natural changes over time such as erosion and sedimentation. Passage in Time (center) is a favorite of many visitors.

I love talking to clients about my new work - the colors, the
details in design, the symbols hidden within the compositions.

Stop by the gallery at 384 N Coast Hwy at Jasmine
next to the Pottery Barn. I'm there every Saturday from 12-5.
Or, let me know when you'll be by and I'll meet you there!

A Gallery Fine Art - Palm Desert

Located on prestigious El Paseo just west of Portola in Palm Desert, A Gallery represents a select group of contemporary artists. I have been with the owners, Claire and Lisa, for five years. If you are looking for expert, personalized service in choosing art, you need to seek the advice of these women.

My painting, Mirage 4 was recently purchased from the gallery. It is one of a series of six small mixed media works for sale at A Gallery. Below you can view the group. There is a larger painting, Desert Mirage, available also.

Moon Watching in Texas

My client's wife received a special surprise gift on Christmas! He secretly called for me to ship "Moon Watchers" to the Dallas/Fort Worth area in time for Santa. The painting is now hanging over a cozy fireplace in their new home.

Here is another larger painting where I have introduced a group of abstracted horse silhouettes in a canyon scape. This is a theme I frequently revisit when creating my spontaneous imagined narratives. "Horse Canyon" is in Sedona at Gallery of Modern Masters in the Hillside complex, Hwy 179, just before the bridge.
